Drivers are more interested in having the car they want, with the options they choose, than having one with the latest registration plate.
A new survey of 1,000 motorists conducted by online car seller BuyaCar.co.uk has found that almost four out of five buyers wouldn’t hold off purchasing a new car until the arrival of the next six-monthly registration.
Dealers have, for many years, sold new vehicles to customers with the promise of delivery on the first day a registration plate was released, giving them brand new car bragging rights over their neighbours.
However, the latest evidence suggests that motorists no longer care as much about showing off their new car.
BuyaCar.co.uk’s online sales figures support the findings, with more new cars sold in October than for the most recent September plate change.
